Labyrinth Hotel (2022 - 2023)

Labyrinth Hotel

This project is my Final Year University Project. Apart from the sound and character design, this is mostly a self-directed project. The plan for this project was to model, rig, and animate in Maya; Texture in Substance Painter and render in Unreal Engine 5.

The basic synopsis of this film is a business man checking into his hotel but he find himself suddenly finds himself transported into a maze of corridors.

The character design was done by Molly Fear.

The music and sound design was done by Joe Flowers

My Process

Modelling

These are screenshots of the models I’ve been working on for this project. As I am currently working on this project, I am prioritising the other work first over rendering out the model.

A combined timelapse of a few of the models I made.

UVs

These are screenshots of each UV for the models I’ve UV’d so far.

Texturing

Here are a couple of my textured models, all of them were textured in Substance Painter (and some elements were done in Photoshop).

Rigging and Blendshapes

I fully rigged my character with the Advanced version of RapidRig and rigged and parented the tie to the character rig. After texturing the character model, I then added blendshapes to the face to allow me to animate more expressions for my character.

Storyboard

Because my skills lie in CG, I decided to make my storyboard/animatic in Unreal Engine, since it made it easier for me to work on and understand. It helped speed up what would’ve taken ages if I had tried to draw one instead.

Animatic which I sent off to my collaborating composer.
